Paper Bouquet

The snow is falling thick and fast - the first snowfall of the season. I love autumn - the crisp, cool mornings with a hint of frost in the air; the changing colors of the leaves- a symphony in red and yellow and orange. But snow? Ugh!!! On the desk beside me, however, is a little plastic teapot filled with paper tulips. Eternal spring reigns!

Yesterday while we were at the eye doctor, Andrew asked if we couldn't stop and buy me flowers on the way home. (And after my lecture about not buying a lot of things we don't absolutely need!) I told him that I would love it even more if he made me a bouquet. He looked at me with a rather dubious expression and said -"Out of what? Paper?" But the wheels were already turning and it wasn't long before he asked me if he could use some aluminum foil, plastic wrap and "a whole lot of tape." You may imagine my trepidation at this request. This is an engineers son!

When we finally arrived home from our appointments, I took Andrew (and Katherine) into the library and showed them my Origami book. We looked up Andrew's favorite flower in the book (tulips) and proceeded to fold our brightly colored squares of paper into tulips. When we were finished, Katherine had to have her turn picking a project. Penguins. Considering the snow, her choice was appropriate. So, they've been making tulips most of the day today. The flowers needed stems, of course, so they just stuck them on the ends of sharpened pencils. We even found them dancing in the living room with flowers held in their teeth!! I wonder where they learned that!?
