Entering the Twenty-first Century

I suppose there comes a time when we must all admit that the old paper and pen method of communication is more or less obsolete. So here I am. I confess I'm a little disappointed about it, though. You see, I'm a paper and pen kind of person. There is nothing so mysterious to me as the possibilities of an empty piece of paper. And there are few joys as keen as finding an envelop in the mailbox with your name on it. One that is stamped and addressed by a well known and well loved hand. "Just writing to say HI!" - "I've been thinking about you..." - "I just had to tell you what happened today..." This method of "keeping in touch" is so much more impersonal and yet, when one has twenty odd families to correspond with, it has its definite advantages. For while a letter in the mail is wonderful, there is a certain amount of tedium involved when you have to write the same things ten, twenty or thirty times. Much easier to write it once and get it over with.
