The GREAT Outdoors

Our first camping trip of the season was the Friday before Mother's Day and we had a great time! We got to take our new camping trailer out for a trial run, and it's a good thing we did too, because it rained on us the entire time. But thanks to modern technology we didn't get any wetter than we wanted to.

We bought this trailer last autumn just before the first real snowstorm (which, by the way, is the best time to buy a trailer because everyone is trying to get rid of the "old" model). Our little trailer is 10 feet long with room to sleep 6 medium sized people.

It was really nice to be able to cook and eat out of the rain and wind. And it had the added bonus of giving Alvin a clean place to explore.

When she wasn't bullying Andrew and Katherine into playing Hide-and-Seek, Lida had a great time sitting in her camp chair. There were times she had quite the air of a little Queen observing her subjects.

Lida has been asking for weeks to go to the park and have a picnic, but until this past week it has been too cold and rainy. Finally, on Friday, Lida got the wish of her little heart. I packed the two littlest ones up and took them to the park.

After only fifteen minutes or so the sun was so hot that it was starting to burn little Alvin. So, because I was a bad mom and forgot to bring hats and sunscreen, we ate our picnic under the table. Chocolate chip cookies taste better that way!

Alvin is still to small to go on the slides and climb the stairs, but he had a great time crawling around in the grass. Fortunately, he didn't try to eat any of it!

Isn't she adorable? Lida insisted that I "catch" her every time. I think she just liked having my (or so she thought) undivided attention.
