I was making dark chocolate truffles this morning - well, forming the truffles from the ganache anyway. I had Lida sitting on the counter while I worked because she is only really happy when she is up where she can see me eye to eye. (Apparently she takes exception to looking me in the shins - I can't think why...) Anyway, I was making truffles and Lida was sitting on the counter and, of course, she was trying her hardest to get her fingers into my ganache and I was trying my darndest to keep it out of her reach. So, she finally gave up (or so I thought) and started chewing on a CD case instead. A few minutes later - my guard down - I glanced over to see what the dog was doing and turn around to find Lida placidly dipping her CD case into my chocolate ganache! She then proceeded to suck the chocolate off the case with great relish. Babies are a lot smarter than we give the credit for!
Sidenote: The truffles turned out great - unless you don't care for dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate, but even I think they would be better with a shade more sugar in them. I'll have to think that through. And when I have a minute I'll post the recipe on Sisters Sharing Recipes so you can try them.
